Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who, along with Nicholas Godejohn, conspired to kill her mother in 2015, was released from a Missouri prison on December 28, 2023. Gypsy and Nicholas murdered Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard in June 2015 by fatally stabbing her in their Missouri home. Both Gypsy and Nicholas were charged with murder; however, due to their differing roles in the crime, Gypsy received a 10-year sentence, while Nicholas received life in prison without parole, along with additional years for crimes related to the murder.
Gypsy's case is not as straightforward as "teen killer released from prison." Her case is very complex, where right and wrong aren't quite clear.
Gypsy's case garnered significant media attention and inspired the Hulu original show "The Act." This attention was due to Gypsy's claim that killing her mother was the only way to escape a life of physical and medical abuse. Gypsy's long, brutal, and suspicious medical history, which included undergoing multiple unnecessary surgeries, is well-documented. It appears that Dee Dee suffered from Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy (MSP), a rare disorder where a person exaggerates their child's illness symptoms or even causes intentional harm to the child, seeking attention, financial gain, or both.
